All days are 8am-6pm. Attendance to all 23 days is required to complete the programme. Should you be unable to make all days please contact us to discuss before booking.
The studio will set up community classes for the trainees to practice their teaching on 'real' students. All trainees will be required to attend all community classes. These will run 4.30-6pm on 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st March, 7th April.

Trainees will be given free unlimited membership with The Yoga Edge studio for the duration of the programme (existing memberships or passes will be paused).

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
Whether your aim is to make a career change, teach on the side, or you simply want to grow your practice and deepen your knowledge of yoga, we are committed to giving you a transformative and deeply enriching experience. The programme is fully accredited with the Yoga Alliance, and will be led by Tom Hamilton (founder of The Yoga Edge) and senior teacher Craig Norris, and supported by other amazing teachers and coaches.
The programme will be highly experiential in nature, with you getting lots of practical experience and practice, as this is what we believe is key to becoming a confident, compelling and engaging teacher (and we think is the best and most fun way to learn!).
The course will be run in February - April 2018, and has been scheduled to fall over Easter. So if you work a 9-5 day job you will only have to take a small number of days off work in order to make all 23 course dates.

IS MY PRACTICE GOOD ENOUGH?
Yes it is! The main requirement for a teacher training program is that you are bodily aware and have a regular practice under your belt. Your teachings will come from your own first-hand experiences of the practice and it certainly doesn't matter whether you can do a headstand or not. Throughout the teacher training programme you will practice every day, vastly improving your own practice, your knowledge and your understanding of how the body moves.

Daily asana practice
You will grow and deepen your practice by doing yoga every day, including in specially-crafted sessions with extra time to go deep and experiment with more advanced poses. You will also learn about aspects of the practice that it is often not possible to spend too much time on in class, including bandhas and mudras.
Daily meditation, pranayama and chanting practice
You will get to experience how these powerful practices can bring healing and transformation to our minds and bodies. Combined with other daily rituals, you will be encouraged to follow a yogic lifestyle throughout the programme, to experience the powerful benefits for yourself.
LeARNING TO TEACH YOGA
You will be practising teaching from day one of the programme, starting small and with lots of support. Our emphasis is on helping you stand before your students (or indeed any other audience) as your authentic self, speaking naturally and with power and conviction. You will learn numerous tools and techniques to help you, and you will get lots of feedback throughout the course.
Teaching “real” classes in the studio
During our programme you will have the opportunity to teach real students in our community classes, which will be put on to the studio timetable for the duration of the programme. These classes will be available to our members and the wider community (at a reduced rate). This will give you real teaching experience, which will help you grow as a teacher and which will be valuable if you want to apply for teaching positions.
We will spend time looking at all the key postures during our fun and experimental posture workshops, where you will learn key principles that can be applied to lots of postures, as well as correct alignment, benefits and contraindications, and safe modifications for each posture.
LEARNING TO ASSIST
You will learn how to give hands-on adjustments and assists to your students to deepen and enrich their practice.
ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY
In order to deepen your understanding of the body, we will look at the major systems of the body – including the muscular, skeletal, respiratory, digestive and nervous systems. Our focus will be on issues that students may commonly suffer from, and how to use our knowledge of anatomy and physiology to ensure we practise in a safe and healing way. We will also look at the yogic understanding of the body.
YOGIC HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY
We will set the practice of yoga in its historical context, and we will study some of the most important texts for yoga practitioners, in particular the Bhagavad Gita, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Through exercises and discussions we will consider the meaning and aim of yoga as set out in these texts, and explore how those can inform our practice today.
Embarking on a yoga teacher training programme involves personal growth and transformation. Everyone who shows up for a teacher training programme is on a journey of self-discovery and improvement, and our aim is to support and guide you in this process. We will encourage you to look at what is holding you back and to see how you can step up to your full potential – living life with greater happiness, fulfilment, sense of purpose and meaning.
The programme is taught by a group of first class trainers, who all have specific experience and operate at the top of their fields. Led by Tom Hamilton, the founder of The Yoga Edge, and senior teacher Craig Norris, with Ellika, Eva, and Vanessa teaching specialist modules.

Our teacher training programme will be held at The Yoga Edge studio and one other location in Crystal Palace, South London. This programme is non-residential, therefore students will need to organise their own accommodation and food for the duration of the programme.
- At least 1 year of regular yoga practice in any style.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
PRE-WORK & ASSIGNMENTS
Upon securing a place on the programme, trainees will be supplied with a reading list containing a small number of materials that will need to be acquired and read before the programme start date. These materials will help you get the most out of your training. During the programme, trainees will be set several written and practical assignments which are to be completed in between the intensives (i.e. on the 'days off'). It is therefore important that those wishing to undertake this programme know that the contact days are long and will challenge you on every level, and that some extra homework time is also necessary.
Yoga Alliance Accredited
The Yoga Edge is a registered training school with Yoga Alliance, an organisation maintaining excellence in the industry. The Yoga Edge programme and its trainers have been approved according to the standards set by the organisation. Trainees will be able to register with Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) upon successful completion of the programme (at their own cost). This accreditation is recognised worldwide.
